My accessories are born when I have enough colors on the plate. Once there are a variety of garments, I get inspired to make use of them. I make bags, huts, headbands, neckbands, and belts. It is a vast field of design and a significant addition to a nice dress. I love doing accessories and invent new items.
An interesting item I once made was 2 red telephone disguises with actors inside them. They were to do advertising while walking wearing them in the street. A Street show it was and actors needed all the possible comfort. Therefore I built a special construction inside, so that they could support and handle the disguise from within. The telephones leaned on their heads and shoulders and were tied up with firm belts to their waist. The eyes were made out of Coca Cola bottles that I cut to lances, so they could see. In order to get the basic telephone shape, I used light wire and foam, then covered it with garment.
Other creative projects was designing and performing for the Inbal Dance Group - an ethnical Yemenite group in Tel Aviv and for the Beit Agefen Theater Group in Haifa. For the Inbal Dance Group I worked with the designer Yuval Caspin, a top Israeli designer and we had to design 25 dancers costumes for a show. The material we used was a combination of delicate fabric and antic lace. Each dress was designed differently. After they were done, the final touch was dyeing the dresses in some natural color that reminds of the desert. It was a very pleasant collaboration. Later on, I joined Yuval Caspin on other projects.
Recycling - I treat old clothing with the same caring and dedication like new ones. Once you love an old item, you want to rescue and keep it with you. The recycling started with Levis Jeans from the 70s, and then it could be a dress turned into a Skirt. A leather jacket that needs mending could add new zippers and patches; all seem as if it was like that from the start - a complete leather restore with modification.
In Barcelona 2000 I did costumes for the Wax Museum. There were imitations for antiquity and costumes from several centuries back. I collaborated with Manolie, she was an expert with leather and furs.
I also did that theater show - Peter Pan. This one was located in a swimming pool surrounded with a nice garden. Naturally, actors were children and Captain Hook was the adult. But in fact, there was another adult inside the Crocodile!!
There was that very athletic man lying on a skateboard; his legs into the animal tail, and his hands were free to push the whole crocodile around as fast as necessary, but he was fast!!
I prepared a special construction around his head, so that he could move easily those big jaws that he had. He was such a strong athlete and the crocodile was so real, fast and dangerous so that the moment the show was over, the entire young crowd run forward curious and excited to greet him. That was a moment of great satisfaction. The director was Efraim Barkan and it was a pleasure to work with him.
